Archäologen haben das Altertum visuell erforscht, Lotos Lab erforscht es musikalisch.
Unser Eröffnungskonzert widmet sich einer gigantisch großen Zeitspanne. Doch Barnaby Brown und Stef Conner präsentieren Ihnen tatsächlich dieses absolut faszinierende Programm, das mit den frühesten musikalischen Überlieferungen beginnt.
Die zum Einsatz kommenden Instrumente sind u.a. die altgriechische Lyra, der antike Aulos, der römischen Kithara, die Triplepipes (ähnlich den sardischen Launeddas) und die schottische Great Highland Bagpipe. Musik aus der Steinzeit, von den Sumerern, Ägyptern, Griechen – bis hin zu den Kelten machen dieses einzigartige Konzert zur perfekten Eröffnung des diesjährigen Interkeltischen Folkfestivals.
Barnaby Brown revolutioniert seit 1999 die Art und Weise, wie Dudelsackspieler auf ihr Repertoire blicken. Von 2006 bis 2012 war er Dozent am Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Für das Actionspiel Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017) nahm er Musik mit seinem historischen Aulos auf. Sein Auftritt in dem Netflix-Film Outlaw King (2018) machte ihn einem noch größeren Publikum bekannt. Seine durch enorme Kreativität, Neugier und Pragmatismus geprägte Musikforschung an altertümlichen Instrumenten mündete 2022 in der Gründung von Lotos Lab.
Stef Connor veröffentlichte 2012 ein Album mit antiker mesopotamischer Poesie, die von rekonstruierten sumerischen Leiern begleitet wird und internationale Aufmerksamkeit in Newsweek, New Scientist, The Guardian und The Arts Show erregte. Ihre Instrumentalmusik wurde vom LSO, dem LPO, dem Philharmonia Orchestra, dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, dem Marian Consort und dem Ligeti Quartett unter anderem beim Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, im South Bank Centre, im York Minster und in der Queen Elizabeth Hall aufgeführt.
