Discover the Lyre

22–25 February 2027

Build, play, and sing with the lyre alongside Nikos Xanthoulis – the leading figure in the modern revival of the ancient Greek lyre, and the first performer in 1,600 years to premiere a concerto written for it. Stefan Hagel unlocks the ancient evidence behind the music’s metre and modes, Stef Conner leads vocal composition and self-accompaniment, and Marco Sciascia and Barnaby Brown guide you through building your own lyre. Explore surviving ancient melodies and create new music rooted in ancient metres, modes, and tuning systems through ensemble sessions and technical coaching.

• Open to all levels, from curious beginners to working musicians and researchers
• Build and take home your own lyre, or bring one you already have and focus on performance
• 24 hours of tuition
• Ending with a collaborative performance in Matera’s magical setting
